Chianti Tour

Chianti region

Chianti is the hilly region located between Siena, Florence and Arezzo. This region is famous for its landscapes but especially for its vineyards and the wine it produces, Chianti, DOCG red wine.

The localities of the “historic” Chianti, which are therefore part of the old “Lega del Chianti”, are the 3 municipalities in the Sienese part: Radda, Gaiole and Castellina in Chianti. Over the course of history the family Medici brought the Chianti area to include the territory of Greve and Panzano, still renowned destinations in the province of Florence.

Lornano & Fonterutoli

The itinerary that we advise you to take to venture out to discover this land of wine is to take the provincial road from Uopini to Badesse and then continue to Lornano; from here the Chianti hills begin.

From Lornano we proceed to Castellina in Chianti, finding on the path Fonterutoli, one of the most beautiful panoramic points from where you can admire the beauty of the Sienese hills and where there is also a very famous wine cellar.

Castellina in Chianti

The first stop is Castellina in Chianti, an ancient stronghold protagonist of the clashes between Florentines and Sienese throughout history.

Here you can visit:

  • the Rocca di Castellina in Chianti which dominates the village in the main square from where you can admire a splendid panorama of the Chianti area.
  • the walls of Castellina in Chianti over the centuries have been almost entirely demolished but still today it is possible to reconstruct the course and characteristics of the fifteenth-century fortifications.

In the town there are many artisan and characteristic shops where you can buy local products: from wine to meat and pasta a mixture of taste, culture and quality … you will not regret it!

Radda in Chianti

After traveling the SR429 for 12 km, you arrive in Radda in Chianti, a characteristic medieval village where you can see the influence of the Florentines in history, from the walls that characterize the small village to the municipal building or Palazzo del Podestà.

Together with Gaiole in Chianti, it was the capital of the Lega del Chianti.

Gaiole in Chianti

The city of Gaiole in Chianti is another important center of the Chianti Classico area, where some of the most popular things to see are undoubtedly the cellars, places of sublime tastings of typical products, oil and wine. But that’s not all: in addition to its Chianti Classico Wine, Gaiole is immersed in a stupendous landscape, characterized by ancient castles and Romanesque churches.

Brolio’s Castle

Proceeding you will meet the Castello di Brolio and the Cantina Cantalici where you can stop for a tasting of oil and wine, in the heart of Chianti. (If you are interested you can request a voucher from the staff of L’Aia Country Holidays.)

The Castello di Brolio is definitely worth a visit inside, you could even visit the wineries.

Castelnuovo Berardenga

The itinerary ends in Castelnuovo Berardenga, where Siena built the last castle. Although much of the municipal territory is still part of it, Castelnuovo is located outside the boundaries of the Chianti Classico.

At the end of this itinerary, which certainly could be explored further, you will have had the opportunity to combine History, Landscapes and Flavors and we hope to have met your expectations.

For more information and details we are always available and we will be happy to explain as much as possible.
