San Gimignano, Volterra and Monteriggioni Tour

Tour from San Gimignano to Volterra with final stage at Monteriggioni Castle.

This itinerary is located in the north-western part of Siena and will take about 8 hours between breaks, visits and travel.

Along the way you will discover scenery of vineyards and breathtaking olive groves, characteristic villages and villages of Tuscany and finally the flavors of Tuscan cuisine.

Tour San Gimignano

Start your day with a panoramic tour from Siena to San Gimignano. A testimony of the past so precious that it has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

The city is also called“TheManhattan of the MiddleAges”because of the profile of its 14 towers will fascinate you.

You can visit the Duomo and the Pinacoteca and if you want to climb the Torre Grossa to dominate all the beauties of the Sienese countryside at a glance, stroll among the olive trees of the Rocca di Montestaffoli or pay a visit to the torture museum.

At lunch the advice is to taste the typical Tuscan products accompanied by the renowned white wine of San Gimignano: Vernaccia.

Tour Volterra

In the afternoon we continue to visit Volterra, a jewel that dominates the entire Val di Cecina and whose gaze extends to the sea, the cradle of Etruscan civilization but also Roman, medieval and Renaissance, in a historical excursus that has been running for three thousand years and which it has left precious artistic and monumental testimonies.

The best way to appreciate Volterra is to stroll through its cobbled streets enjoying the beautiful Piazza dei Priori with the town hall, the Duomo, the access to the city surrounded by the thirteenth-century walls and the imposing ruins of the Roman Theater up to the beautiful park dominated by the Medici Fortress. with its Rocca del Mastio. If you have the opportunity and the time available, I suggest you also stop in a small alabaster laboratory to see the ancient art of sculpture.

Monteriggioni Medieval Castel Tour

After Volterra it is time to go back to the base but not before stopping at sunset at the splendid Monteriggioni Castle, just 10 minutes from our structure. Sunset is the best time as the walls (which can be visited) are tinged with a fiery orange color, excellent for taking photographs.

Monteriggioni Castle has undergone a surge of interest thanks to the medieval video game Assassin’s Creed. Entering the castle you will immediately feel catapulted into the Middle Ages and here you can stop for an aperitif in the central square of the village.

This day will be a dip in the Middle Ages and in Etruscan history.

We hope this tour has inspired you, if you have any doubts or questions we will be happy to explain more.
