Crete Senesi Tour

Crete Senesi

The Crete Senesi are so called because of the clayey composition of the soil.

The landscape of the Crete Senesi is characterized by cultivated fields crossed by avenues of cypresses. But the real protagonists of the clays are the gullies and the biancane formed by the erosion of the clayey soil.

Montalcino

The day starts immediately with a stop in Montalcino, the town that with its towers boasts a view of the breathtaking Val d’Orcia countryside. A walk through the small streets of Montalcino will make you find incredible views.

In the village you will find many local shops where you can stock up on local products, but what can I tell you to do? A Bottle of Brunello di Montalcino unmissable.

After the first stage you can reach the abbey of Sant’Antimo which is located just below the town. The abbey is immersed in a valley of olive trees where peace reigns.

Buonconvento & Asciano

The most characteristic villages of the Crete Senesi are Buonconvento and Asciano, characteristic villages that retain the charm and beauty of the past.

Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey

Among the major attractions of the area we find the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, a monastic complex between Asciano and Buonconvento.

This is the perfect place to find peace, culture and even local products made by the Benedictine monks who manage and care for the abbey complex. Here in Monte Oliveto Maggiore you will also find an excellent restaurant where you can make a short stop.

Chiusure

A few kilometers from Monte Oliveto Maggiore we find Chiusure, a small village characterized by its position and the Biancane landscape it overlooks.

the path of cypresses to “S”

Continuing the road towards Asciano, we meet one of the most panoramic and photographed points in Italy, the path of cypresses to “S”. If you are a photography lover, I recommend that you reach this point at sunset, you will take home a beautiful postcard!

Once you have reached Asciano, you just have to take the road that leads to Taverne d’Arbia, one of the most beautiful in Italy. You will be surrounded for miles by long undulating hills and rows of cypresses.

Site Transitoire

If you have brought a bottle of wine and a sandwich with you, my advice is to stop in Leonina for a snack at sunset with a view of Siena.

The Site Transitoire is a modern sculpture located in the middle of the countryside, an ideal place for photographs and a moment of relaxation. To reach the Site Transitoire you will have to take a dirt road that passes through Leonina.
